ARTIST PROFILE: AUTHOR, NED VIZZINI

A Note from the Editor: Ned Vizzini, impresario of unpretentious literary events, is one of the most innovative marketers around. Filled with an abundance of energy and veracity, he is utterly humble, completely talented and wonderfully creative – pitching up an atypical high school drama in his latest novel, Be More Chill. Ned has offered up to his fans and Small Spiral Notebook readers, a forbidden chapter that was excised from the final manuscript.

Ned Vizzini on the forbidden Be More Chill excerpt:
I wrote this book called Be More Chill about teenagers, so naturally it had some masturbation in it. As I was going through the edits, I removed this chapter, which the editors were actually cool with, primarily for space reasons. It made it into the galley copies of the book but not the final edition. After the galleys came out, I found out from many of my friends that this was their favorite chapter. So here it is: THE INTERNET SEX CHAPTER. All you really need to know to enjoy it is that the protagonist, Jeremy Heere, is a dork in school that doesn't get laid. Yes, it involves personal experience. No, I don't have any stains on my wall.

Oh, and for those of you who don't know about Be More Chill, here's the company line: BE MORE CHILL follows Jeremy Heere, your average high school dork. Day after day, he stares at beautiful Christine, the girl he can never have, and dryly notes the small defeats that come his way on his Humiliation Sheets…until he gets a “squip.” A pill-sized supercomputer that you swallow, the squip instructs Jeremy on everything from what to wear to how to talk and walk, transforming him from super-geek to superchic. But Jeremy finds that there is a dark side to having a computer in your brain—and it can lead to disastrous consequences.
